As part of the celebration of the Feast day of Mama Mary last Dec 8, 2009, the blessing of the Statue of Venerable Delia Tetreault, Foundress of the Institution of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, was held at the DTASC Garden at 9:30 am.
The statue was donated by Batch 1972 as part of their mission to promote the memory and causes of Mother Delia. Present during the ribbon cutting were Sr. Dina Ang, Sr. Delia Regidor (Provincial Superior), Ms. Marietta Co Chien ’72 and Ms Annie Dee ’72. Blessing was officiated by Fr. Cesar Marin, SJ, Mary the Queen Parish Priest. Assistant High School Principal Ms Shirley Tan hosted the event, while the ICA Glee Club performed the opening and closing songs.
ICAAA also took the opportunity to turnover to the MIC a donation of P 1M. This is part of ICAAA’s continuing commitment to help the MICs in their missionary work. On hand during the turnover were Sr. Dina Ang, Sr. Delia Regidor, Sr. Teresita Canivel, ICAAA president Billie Ching Syling and past president Esther Gabaldon.
Below is President Billie Ching Syling’s speech during the turnover:
Today, as we celebrate Mama Mary’s special day in this season of Advent, we also wish to celebrate the courage and dedication of our MIC sisters. We wish to convey our gratitude to them who have left their own families and homes to care for God’s other children.
Indeed, we live in difficult times. But in our faith, we know that God never forsakes His children. Amidst financial crises and other calamities, many people have generously poured their time, wisdom, and resources, so that we can make this donation possible. We thank everyone who have bought the Bencab etched glass pieces in support of the Philippine missions of the MIC. We also thank the officers, both past and present, including our secretaries, for helping to promote and sell these beautiful pieces. Most importantly, we would like to acknowledge Ms. Ester Tanco-Gabaldon, for it was she who conceptualized this whole project and devoted time and energy to making sure it went through. As Venerable Mother Delia Tetreault said, “Work for the interests of God, and He will look after yours!”
We are one ICA community: as the MIC sisters sow and nurture the seeds of faith in our hearts, we hope to live up to Venerable Mother Delia Tetreault’s vision of becoming women of faith and service. The examples of our MIC sisters who work in Bukidnon, and Mati, Davao Oriental and with the Mangyans in Mindoro inspire us to also live out our faith in our families, in school, in the alumnae association, and our communities.
Therefore, in gratitude for the tireless and loving work of the MIC sisters: they, who, like Mary, dutifully said “yes” to the call of God, and in celebration of their 100 years of mission in China that eventually led them to the Philippines, we, in the ICA Alumnae Association, would like to manifest our support in the form of a donation of One Million Pesos to the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. We hope that our humble contribution may help your harvest. We pray, too, that you may be blessed with good health, much energy, many productive years—and maybe more ICAn MICs to continue your apostolate. We salute you!
