ICAAA 2nd General Assembly
Friday, October 23, 2009

by : Julie Tan-Sy ('82)

A week after the the devastation of Typhoon Ondoy, ICAAA decided to cancel its scheduled Mooncake Dice Game for alumnae and hold its own relief operations. It was held last Oct 9 Friday, along with its Second General Assembly and Dinner in honor of Silver Jubilarians Batch 84.  Officers, batch representatives and volunteers gathered at the HS Covered Court at 5 pm to sort and pack donations from the alumnae. Batch 84 also conducted their own relief operations at the same time. (See separate article under Alumnae Activities) More than a thousand bags filled with bottled water, canned goods, snacks, rice, powdered milk, blankets, towels, T-shirts, and toiletries were sorted and packed that night in a matter of few hours. It was an amazing show of how ICAn camaraderie and teamwork manage to come up with great results. These relief goods will be distributed to the survivors of badly affected areas of San Juan as a response to a call by Mayor JV Ejercito to help.

The general assembly followed immediately after dinner was served to all volunteers and guests. The meeting began with ICAAA paying tribute to an ICA icon, Mrs Rosita Sy, who celebrated her Chinese 80th Birthday last Aug 6. A video presentation of her life, which was lovingly put together by her son Kelvin, was shown. Her eldest son Kenneth, was also present that night.  It was also a joint birthday celebration with another icon, Sr. Teresita Canivel, who celebrated her 80th last Sept 29.

After all the officers have presented plans and activities of their respective committees, the floor was turned over to the Guest of Honor Whistlers, Batch 84, host of this years’ Grand Alumnae Homecoming. They revealed details of the event and invited everyone to attend and join in the fun.

Get-togethers with ICAns usually mean a lot of laughter, scoops of the latest gossips and update on each other’s lives. But tonight, we all went home with a sense of accomplishment and a warm feeling in our hearts that somehow, we’ve made a difference in the world. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped.
