ICAAA, in cooperation with the Rivers of Living Water Ministry, organized a Healing Mass by Father Fernando Suarez last May 7, 2009 at the Delia Tetreault Arts and Sports Center in ICA. Ruby Chua-Lim (’68), a member of the Rivers of Living Waters Ministry coordinated closely with the ICAAA officers for this highly anticipated event. Close to 2000 people attended the mass, which started at 2:00 pm, followed immediately after by the healing. The mass was co-celebrated by Fr. Jeff Shannon, Fr. Javy, and Fr. Cesar Marin.  Music was provided by the Alay sa Diyos Choir and lay ministers were from the Mary the Queen Parish. During the healing, many people shared how they were healed through the touch of Fr. Suarez. For many, it was an emotional healing more than anything else. Here is an excerpt from a letter written to ICAAA President Billie Syling by Annabel Uy-Braganza (’77). Her words captured what almost everyone feels.

Dear Billie,

It's amazing how weeks have passed since the healing mass of Fr. Suarez and people are still remembering it.

It’s awesome to see so many people come together in faith and hope to be healed.  When I step back to take a look at what was going on that day, it’s as if I was transported back in time witnessing the ministry of Jesus, the ministry of Healing. Jesus touching each and everyone while they are also very hungry to be touched by Him. The unbashful expressions of hope and faith shown by the people who attended the mass affirm that God is alive today in our lives.

I also understand the popularity of Fr. Suarez.  His healing mass was conducted with humility, no big drama and attention getting for him self. With a crowd of around 2000 people, it went smoothly and quickly.  It was done in a prayerful manner.  He constantly reminded us that the healing is in the mass centering on the Holy Eucharist and not in outward signs and wonders that we see. This reminder gave us special emphasis and attention to what it means every time we attend the holy mass.  He gives all glory to Jesus Christ and no other person.

Congratulations Billie and to all volunteers!

Thank you once again and looking forward to the next alumni activity.

God Bless you.

Annabel Uy-Braganza
